My World Tuesday - Traditional Costumes from round the world

Saw this exhibition on traditional costumes from around the world at Suntec City. The costumes are all so beautiful and colourful. I might have overlook some costumes from some countries cause there were so many of them and I met my cousin and his family at the exhibition. Been too busy chatting with them to concentrate on the details of the exhibition...lol.

For more details of the exhibition, you can visit Mable's Blog for the detailed information.

Some of the traditional costumes wore by Singaporean. Singapore is a multi racial country consisting of the Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasians.

I hope you spot your country's traditional costumes. If not, it could be that I have missed out some of the costumes.

I hope you enjoy the photos of the beautiful costumes and the fabric as much as I do.
Please visit "That's my World" for other parts of the world.
Tomorrow I will post photos of the fabric exhibition also held at Suntec City. Do return to visit my blog for the beautiful fabric arts.

Suntec City - Travel Fair

Singaporeans love to travel. Travel Fair is always crowded with people.

These people are booking for tours for the year end holidays.
This is just one of the in house travel fair organised by this travel agent. End of August, there will be a major travel fair where all the travel agents will participate and the crowd will be even bigger.
I normally will just get brochures only to see what travel offers they have. I will then check the prices and enquire about the tour in their travel office rather than queue at travel fair. I hate long queues and I normally dont book my travel so many months ahead. I always book only few weeks before for my travel. If it is a nearby country, I will book just a few days before hand.

Sky Watch - City Plaza

Near the Geylang Serai Market, is this very old building called City Plaza. I remembered I used to visit the shopping centre when I was a teenager. Now the shopping centre is very old and not many people visit this mall except Sunday.

The colour of the building really make it stand out of all the buildings in that area.

I went into the mall but it is so different from during its hey day. Gone are all the nice boutique that I used to purchase my clothings from. Some of the clothings in there now are for wholesale and mass produced.

Geylang Serai Market - Food Centre and Shops

On the second storey of the market is the food centre and other shops selling clothes and other household products.

There were so many people in the market and food centre, it was so difficult to capture a shot without people in the background.

When I was there, I had to wait for sometime for a seat to have my lunch.

Clothings, shoes and other household products are so much cheaper in here than in the malls.
Also a great place just to browse around.

Geylang Serai Market - Wet Market

It was so crowded in the market. Everyone busy stocking up food for the week ahead. The first thing I noticed when I step into the market was the fragrant smell of the spices.

There are so many different types of spices available over here. Nowadays when I cooked my curry chicken, I dont have to grind all the different types of ingredients and spices, I just get the spices from the market.
The best thing about market is that you can get recipes from the stall holder. All you have to do was to let the stall holder know if you intended to cook curry chicken or curry fish or curry vegetables and she will get the right type of spices for you and a few tips on how to cook too.

Fishes in this market are so much cheaper than those in heartland.

This stall is selling all the dry goods and take note of the coconut grinding machine in the background.

Stall selling beef, mutton, etc. No pork in this market cause majority of the customers are muslims. This market sell mainly halal food.

This market has so many stalls selling different types of food.

The new market is very spacious and big and the floor is not wet anymore.
Tomorrow I will post the food centre that is located above this market and the food is yummy.

My World Tuesday - Geylang Serai Market

Last weekend, hubby and me went to Geylang Serai Market. This market has been rebuilt.
The old market was small, dark, wet and smelly. But when I visited the new market, it was very big, bright and spacious.

The market sold mainly halal food and there's a lot of varieties of malay food and spices too. On the ground floor is the market while on the second floor is the food centre.

The design of the market was built to resemble the malay villages. Geylang Serai used to be a malay village.

Beside food, the market also sold curtains, cloth, clothes, household stuff, etc.

Taxi stand outside the market. After marketing, many would take taxi back, as some of them dont stay nearby but come here because of the halal food, being the only market in Singapore that sell mainly halal food.
You have to return tomorrow to view the photos of the market and the food centre.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE- Fly past by chinook carrying Singapore Flag

Today is the 45th birthday of Singapore. Happy Birthday Singapore. Took these videos of the chinook during the NDP 2010 rehearsals on two different days from two different locations when I was there.

The chinook that carried the huge Singapore flag flew over the padang (the venue of the performances) when the National Anthem was playing. Even those army and police personnel and Singaporeans (like me) standing along the streets watching, all came to a stand still. This is in respect to the country when the National Anthem was played.

And now I am done posting all these NDP 2010 photos. Will begin a new series of photos soon. Hope all of you enjoyed the NDP 2010 photos and short videos that I posted.

National Day Parade 2010 Rehearsal on 31.07.2010 - Planes

Time passes fast and it is already Friday and looking forward to weekend to spend time with family. Geez we have less than five months before 2011.

Some of the videos are blurred cause of the excitement and the planes were too fast, no time to focus the camera.

Hope you all enjoyed the short videos and sorry for the blurred videos. I love taking short vidoes so that I could view them on the computer over and over again. The best video I took was the fireworks but it was too long to load to blogger.

National Day Parade 2010 Rehearsal - Performances

Posted this before but was taken at another direction. This is not the only performers for the event. There are other performers who were marching in from other places. It was like they are coming in from the north, south, east and west towards the venue. Some were stationed at Marina Bay Sands, City Hall, etc.

My World Tuesday - National Day Parade 2010 Rehearsal - Parachuters

One of the crowd's favourite sky performances.

Last saturday, went to watch the NDP 2010 rehearsal again and took these videos of the parachuters from another location which offered a better view.

You have to watch both videos for the action of the parachuters.
The last parachuters that touch down carried a Singapore Flag.

Please visit That's my world for other parts of the world.

National Day Parade 2010 Road Show

I happen to come across the NDP 2010 Road Show in Bishan. At the road show, the public will get to:

■Learn new infocomm tools – Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Blogs
■Get FREE printout of your favourite photo from that day from Snapfish
■Capture video with the latest flip video and see how easy it is to upload via flipshare
■Experience holding the Chinook in your hands with MXR technology

You can find out more about the roadshow from the official site.

Hubby is very surprised that I know about twitter, flickr, etc...lol. I told hubby that flickr is kinda of a photo sharing and is free for the first 200 photos and you got to pay if you want more space in flickr. My hubby was wondering what is twitter, is it a bird calling.... I have to explain to hubby about these IT tools, I think these road shows are educational to especially those older folks who are not familar with the new technology. I am old but very young at heart, that is why I know some of the IT tools featured there...hehehe.

The above looked like a lion and a tower. They are actually made up of many small post it notes where citizen can write their wishes for Singapore and they might win a prize in a lucky draw. And no I did not write anything cause I dont like my personal information on the board. I never like to join any contest in any exhibitions or road shows cause not sure where my personal information will end up.

Some of these new machines are joining in the mobile display and parade during National Day.

I need to take a photo of all these names of the defence vehicles.

I got a souvenir at the road show. It was a pin with the design of a chinook carrying the huge Singapore Flag. I got a video of the actual chinook carrying the flag. I will post them in later post.

Skywatch Friday - National Day 2010 Rehearsel - Fireworks

After watching the parade of the rehearsal by the streets, we walked over to Esplanade and watch the fireworks display by the Singapore River. It was so beautiful. I had another video that is too long to load to blogger, it takes just too long. That video was really so beautiful and I can felt as if the fireworks were falling onto me. I got a good seat by the Singapore River watching the fireworks. I will try my luck to load on You Tube.

Some short videos of the fireworks by the Singapore River.

Smaller fireworks behind me. They were fired up from the roof top of Esplanade. There are more smaller fireworks fired from other office buildings around me, but I could not capture them all. You might like to view a video in You Tube taken by someone of the fireworks viewed from Marina Bay Sands.

A video taken from Marina Bay Sands in You Tube.
