Singapore Food Trail - Ice Ball
The highlight of our visit to Singapore Food Trail was these ice balls. We ordered four of these to the delight of the stallholder. Yummy. Ice Ball has a long history. It now costs $2.50 for one, the last time I remembered I only paid ten cents for it hahaha. That was when I was in Primary School. Ice Ball was ice shavings shaped into a ball, inside are some red bean (used to be beans not bean paste as you can see from the below video) and some syrup and coconut milk poured all over the ice ball. They now served them in bowl with a spoon but we used to hold the ice ball in our hands and suck the ice ball.
Am so glad Ice Ball made a come back. During the 60s Ice Ball was popular with school children, I rembered I share one ice ball with my class mate, we each paid five cents for the cost of the ten cents ice ball and have the stall holder saw the ice ball into half hahahaha. You should have see the mini saw that he used to saw the ice ball, all the water caused the saw to rust, wondered why we were so healthy back then, we dont fall sick that often and never need to see any doctor. If today we were to see any stallholder using rusty utensils to whip out their food, they will sure get a fine lol.
Short video of making of ice balls.
Do remember to try out the ice ball if you visit the Singapore Food Trail. Best to eat the ice ball by holding the ice ball in the plastic sheet with your hands and suck the ice. It is not the same feeling if you will to eat the ice ball with the spoon. Am sure those in my generation born before the late 60s will remember the fond memories of childhood when sucking the ice ball by holding it in both hands.

My World - Singapore Food Trail
Last week, managed to find time to visit Singapore Food Trail for lunch. Singapore Food Trail is on Level 1 at the Singapore Flyer. It is actually a food centre with themed interior design and setting from the past, as well as some makeshift stalls along the roadside. It really bring out the fond memories of my childhood times where we used to eat at stalls along the roadside.
Hahaha the stallholder posed for me to take photos of his stall. No need to advertise for him, he is already famous hahaha. The sign infront of his stall indicated that. But that does not stop him from telling me, his siblings operated other oyster omelette stalls in Bedok Bus Interchange and Geylang too hahaha.
Oyster Omelette $8 (medium) - the portion looked big enough for us - yummy.
Hokkien Mee - $8 - yummy
Bak Kut Teh - $30 for 5 bowls of rice, two bowls of pork ribs soup, one bowl of pig's organs soup, one bowl of preserved vegetables and you tiao (fried fritters).
It is interesting to see road signs in the food centre too.
I will definitely go back again to try the other food too. The price might be steep but the portion is generous.

Tanjong Pagar Railway Station - Food Stalls
Just beside the arrival platform in the train station are many food stalls. They sold halal malay food. I love taking malay food.
I have no idea what will happen to these stalls after the train station is relocated to woodlands. The prices are very reasonable.
We thought the stalls are closed on Sunday so we had our lunch already before heading to the station, a great mistake. My goodness I had to miss the nasi padang. Anyway, I cant resist eating the chapati. It is something like a flat bread. Very yummy when eaten with curry.
Just have to turn the chapati over to show the burned part.
Lots of people at the station platform, some eating and some taking photos of the station. One thing for sure these people are not there taking the train.
Will post the trains and railway tracks in skywatch tomorrow.

My World Tuesday - Seah Imm Food Centre
During the weekend, hubby and me had lunch at Seah Imm Food Centre. Although the weather was very hot but the food centre was not hot or stuffy cause it was rather spacious and not crowded at that time when we were there.
Lots of food choices in here, not sure what to have for lunch.
Hubby had nasi briyani (a kind of rice cooked in spices) and accompanied with meat (hubby had mutton) and it costs S$4.50
I had ayam penyat (a kind of Indonesian dish with fried chicken and belachan) and it costs S$4.00. There are cheaper prices of food here, if I am not wrong the cheapest is about S$2.50

I am famous...lol
I wake up this morning and happen to google and saw that my blog was linked to several websites....Cool.
When I first started blogging, it was more curiousity than anything, then it became a habit to blog daily and then making friends online and learning so much about the different places and cultures of other countries. Now I think I am famous...hahaha.
I dont want to be famous, I just want to share the experiences of my life and how places in Singapore have changed and transformed to a beautiful Singapore in my 50 years.
I am so proud of my country and so lucky and contended with my 50 years of life in here.
Look who linked my blog:
Yesterday.sg (I like this blog which showcases many articles about musuems, etc, I think i would like to visit the places they recommended.)
Straits Chinese
Look who like my food review.

Bak Kwa
My first attempt at making Bak Kwa, by the time you read this post, it's already been eaten by my youngest son...lol
To see more step by step photos of the DIY Bak Kwa, you can view my food blog.
Bakkwa, or rougan is a Chinese salty-sweet dried meat product similar to jerky, made in the form of flat thin sheets. It is normally made from pork. For more information, please view source.

Maxwell Food Centre
A typical hawker centre or food centre where many locals and tourists who patronise for their meals.
Maxwell Food Centre is located near Maxwell Road; near Tanjong Pagar Road. It has a long history and it was formerly a wet market during the 1950s for the residents in chinatown. It was then converted to a hawker centre to house hawkers. For more info:click here
I like to eat at this food centre when I am in the chinatown area. There are many nice stalls that sell my favourite food and at a very reasonable price.
The difference between a hawker centre and a food court is that most hawker centre are non air conditioned but with huge fans while food court are found mostly in shopping malls and are air conditioned. But most good food are found in hawker centre and they are reasonably priced.
