Yesterday was the 55th Birthday of Singapore. Due to Covid 19, the event was scaled down and many events were spread in the Heartlands instead of one location for social distancing purposes.
Though the number of covid cases in Singapore is still high but the spread of the virus is only few in the local community. Most cases are in the dormitories of migrant workers. Finally, they have finished all the testing for the workers and the number of cases will go down. Hopefully no cluster again.
I hope everything will go back to normal so people can lead normal lives, hope the economy will recover and a lot of people will not lose jobs, etc.
Meanwhile we are still wearing masks indoors or outdoors except in our own homes and remember to sanitise our hands and hope everybody be healthy.

Singapore National Day 2020 is on 9th August 2020. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, this year the celebration will be focus on celebrating at home and many segments moved to the heartland and smaller scale evening show. As such, each household will given an NDP goodies bag for the celebration.
Many heartland flats were decorated to celebrate the occasion. This year the NDP goodies bag is very useful. The reuseable maks are lovely with Singapore Logo.
Last weekend, there's a rehearsal for the coming National Day 2018 (9th August 2018), I did not get tickets to watch the rehearsal but got lucky to be able to watch so many planes fly past my house's window. Not fast enough to catch all the planes in my camera.
Wow I had a field day video all the planes passing by my window after they had performed their stunts for the Singapore National Day 2015. I counted about 15 of them but a total of 50 aircrafts were used for the performance including one Singapore Airlines Plane.
There were even helicopters, Apache, Chinook, etc but these did not fly past my window.
I video them in short intervals but edited them to join them in one video.
For the real performance you can view the official videos below from You Tube.
The performance were great and I am really proud.
It so happening right now, all preparing for the big party in an hour or so. Mobile Column getting ready for the big march to the venue. So proud of today and very happy. Hoping the weather will be kind.
Very long row of mobile column, had to split the video otherwise the video will be too long.
For more details on the mobile column, please view NDP.ORG
Happy 50th Birthday Singapore, in a few hours, the big party will be held at Padang, Cityhall. As this is the Jubilee Celebration we had extra holiday in addition to the national day (9th August 2015, falls on Sunday so public holiday replaced on Monday), the extra holiday was on 7th August 2015. So we made a visit to the padang on 7th August, before the actual party started today.
So happy to be able to stroll to the padang and met with these delightful lighted props to be used on national day. These props are very uniquely Singaporean.
Singa the Courtesy Lion , mascot for courtesy campaign.
Teamy Bee for the National Productivity Movement.
Water Wally for the Save Water Campaign
I think this is the national flower - Vanda Miss Joaquim
Blur like sotong - is Singlish (Singapore slang) - sotong means squid as squid squirts ink in water to make it blur but actually means clueless
Lah - another Singlish Slang - comes after each sentence eg. OK lah
Changi Airport Control Tower
Singapore Public Housing Flat (apartment) and it does not comes cheap even though it is public, at least 6 figures sum in Singapore Dollars

.
Ice Kachang - Local dessert- was originally ice ball but evolved to ice kachang. I remember during my primary school in the 60s it costs only 10 cents for ice ball and i share with my friend so we need foot only 5 cents each and the ice vendor will use a mini saw to saw the ice ball into half (inside the ice ball are some red beans ingredients. Fond memories :)
King of fruits - Durian
The beautiful stage for tonight celebration.
Last night was at One Fullerton viewing a very beautiful lightshow by The Fullerton Hotel Singapore in celebrating Singapore 50th birthday. Was lucky to get a good spot to video the beautiful show.

Additional screening on Saturdays and Sundays at 11.00pm
More information from The Fullertonbay Hotel.
On 9th August 2015, will be Singapore 50th birthday. All over the island were many decorations celebrating the occasions.
My mini Singapore Lion Mascot that I received in my fun pack. Happy Birthday Singapore.
Last night, saw fireworks in the sky in Braddell Heights Estate. The estate was having some party to celebrate Singapore National Day SG50 in advance of August 9th, 2015. After the party, they lighted some fireworks.
Did not manage to video the whole fireworks cause blocked by some apartments.
August 9th, 2015 marks Singapore 50th birthday. To celebrate the occasion, every household in Singapore will receive a funpack to celebrate the Golden Jubilee. Every fun pack is different and the bags comes with different designs. For more information, can view from the official website of NDP.Org.
The photos were funpack from myself and my siblings, we all have different items in our funpack. The most interesting and collectible item must be the mini singa (lion).
On 9th August 2014 will be Singapore 49th National Day. Singaporeans have started to hang the country flag with pride. But some are still hanging the flag the wrong way.
Today is the 46th Birthday of Singapore. Wow I am older than my country...lol.
Singapore had been a part of various local empires since it was first inhabited in the second century AD. It hosted a trading post of the East India Company in 1819 with permission from the Sultanate of Johor. The British obtained sovereignty over the island in 1824 and Singapore became one of the British Straits Settlements in 1826. Singapore was occupied by the Japanese in World War II and reverted to British rule after the war. It became internally self-governing in 1959. Singapore united with other former British territories to form Malaysia in 1963 and became a fully-independent state two years later after separation from Malaysia. Read from source for more about Singapore.
So we gain our independence on 9th August 1965.
This morning, I went to Sentosa for a brisk walk with hubby. Saw this very huge flag with a heart shape made of roses on Sentosa Island just infront of the Images of Singapore Building.
We walked to Sentosa from mainland Singapore via the Sentosa Boardwalk which I posted about in my much earlier post in February 2011.
We saw a huge banner of greetings at the boardwalk. Some wrote very nice words and greetings and some drew on the banner. Very beautiful way to celebrate National Day.

Today is the 45th birthday of Singapore. Happy Birthday Singapore. Took these videos of the chinook during the NDP 2010 rehearsals on two different days from two different locations when I was there.
The chinook that carried the huge Singapore flag flew over the padang (the venue of the performances) when the National Anthem was playing. Even those army and police personnel and Singaporeans (like me) standing along the streets watching, all came to a stand still. This is in respect to the country when the National Anthem was played.
And now I am done posting all these NDP 2010 photos. Will begin a new series of photos soon. Hope all of you enjoyed the NDP 2010 photos and short videos that I posted.
Time passes fast and it is already Friday and looking forward to weekend to spend time with family. Geez we have less than five months before 2011.
Some of the videos are blurred cause of the excitement and the planes were too fast, no time to focus the camera.
Hope you all enjoyed the short videos and sorry for the blurred videos. I love taking short vidoes so that I could view them on the computer over and over again. The best video I took was the fireworks but it was too long to load to blogger.

Posted this before but was taken at another direction. This is not the only performers for the event. There are other performers who were marching in from other places. It was like they are coming in from the north, south, east and west towards the venue. Some were stationed at Marina Bay Sands, City Hall, etc.
National Day is around the corner and almost every Saturday was rehearsal time for the event. Last Saturday, went down to watch the mobile column again but this time round, took the photos and video at another better location.
I happen to come across the NDP 2010 Road Show in Bishan. At the road show, the public will get to:
■Learn new infocomm tools – Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Blogs ■Get FREE printout of your favourite photo from that day from Snapfish ■Capture video with the latest flip video and see how easy it is to upload via flipshare ■Experience holding the Chinook in your hands with MXR technology
You can find out more about the roadshow from the official site.
Hubby is very surprised that I know about twitter, flickr, etc...lol. I told hubby that flickr is kinda of a photo sharing and is free for the first 200 photos and you got to pay if you want more space in flickr. My hubby was wondering what is twitter, is it a bird calling.... I have to explain to hubby about these IT tools, I think these road shows are educational to especially those older folks who are not familar with the new technology. I am old but very young at heart, that is why I know some of the IT tools featured there...hehehe. The above looked like a lion and a tower. They are actually made up of many small post it notes where citizen can write their wishes for Singapore and they might win a prize in a lucky draw. And no I did not write anything cause I dont like my personal information on the board. I never like to join any contest in any exhibitions or road shows cause not sure where my personal information will end up.
Some of these new machines are joining in the mobile display and parade during National Day.
I need to take a photo of all these names of the defence vehicles.
I got a souvenir at the road show. It was a pin with the design of a chinook carrying the huge Singapore Flag. I got a video of the actual chinook carrying the flag. I will post them in later post.
