I love keeping empty beautiful tins/cans/boxes. I also love to keep beautiful shopping bags. And not forgetting my 30 years old collection of cocktail stirrers...hahaha. You can view them in my previous post by clicking on them.

Warehouses along Singapore River

Most of the old warehouses along Singapore River have been converted to restaurants and pubs.

Even the bumboats are used as restaurants.

Some of the bumboats are used as river taxis to ferry tourists to sightsee the scenery of Singapore along the Singapore River.

This waterfront restaurant is Indochine,it has a very nice view of the Singapore River. There are many terracotta soldiers at the front of their restaurants. But they are not the real thing, just replicas.

I dont want to be famous, I just want to share the experiences of my life and how places in Singapore have changed and transformed to a beautiful Singapore in my 50 years.

I am so proud of my country and so lucky and contended with my 50 years of life in here.

Warehouses along Singapore River

These warehouses along Singapore River have a very long history. It used to be very dirty and filled with many cargoes. Many bum boats would arrived through the river and coolies (workers) would carried all these cargoes on their backs and carried them from the boats to the warehouses. I used to watch them cause these warehouses were near my late grandparents home.

In modern Singapore, bum boats dont come through the Singapore River anymore. Instead all the cargoes are shipped through huge ship berthed along the busy port in Pasir Panjang and Jurong. Nowadays bumboats are used to ferry tourists to view the sights of Singapore River.

I used the same photo to be printed as a sketch through a software. It really looked like a sketch by someone. I am not talented hahaha...cant sketch like the above. But am sure Mable can sketch better than the above. Mable is very good in drawing and sketching. She is so talented. You can view her drawings by clicking her name and looked at her sidebar for her sketches.

Katong - Shophouses

Over here in Katong, there are many beautiful shophouses. They have very unique and beautiful designs on them. These shophouses are very old and some dated as far back as in 1920s.
This Red Building is very popular. It used to be a famous bakery shop.
The Red House Bakery is a wakaf property, put in trust to the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore by Sherrifa Zain Alsharoff Mohamed Alsogoff, the great granddaughter of Hajjah Fatimah who built the famous Hajjah Fatimah Mosque at Beach Road. A Jewish man named Jim Baker started the bakery shop. In 1931, a Hainanese seaman, Tan Siang Fuan paid S$600 as "coffee money" to take over the bakery shop from Jim Baker. In 1957, the shophouse where the Red House Bakery was occupying was declared a wakaf asset together with five other adjacent shophouses along East Coast Road. It was specified that the rental income from the shophouses were to be used to fund Sherrifa Zain's grandchildren's education until 21 years after her death. Beyond that, the earnings were to be used to establish and maintain a free clinic, to be named the Al-Taha Dispensary.
You can read more about its history from Infopedia .

Love these shophouses with their beautiful windows. I noted the above photo that one of the shop changed its windows. I do hope the rest will keep the original designs of the windows.

Most shophouses in Katong are used as restaurants or food outlets. Katong is famous for its food.

Serangoon Salted Baked Chicken

Saw this shop selling salt-baked chicken.

Oh I remember that we used to buy this from Serangoon and not Katong. I guess this is one of their branch shop.

The shop that started selling this salt baked chicken was in Serangoon and it was very famous. I remember tucking into the delicious chicken as a child together with my siblings. But now due to health conscious, am avoiding too much intake of salt.

Sembawang Shopping Centre-Playground for Kids

I normally dont go to Sembawang area cause it is not near where I am staying. This is the day where hubby and me decided to head to Sembawang Shopping Centre for our lunch.

We stumbled across a playground for kids. It looked so much fun.
The whole area looked deserted cause it is a weekday and all the kids are in school. And it is lunch time around noon, I guess parents do not like their kids to be out playing in the mid sun. But come weekend or school holidays, who cares if it is mid sun...lol. The whole place would be filled with kids and laughter.

Vivo City - Marche's Restaurant-Little Garden-Herbs

They too grow lots of herbs and spices plants. The above plant is curry leaf. Each time I wanted to cook curry chicken or fish, I would get some stalks from the vegetable seller free of charge. The best way to get free extras is to make friends with the vegetable seller. Hubby told me that, the next time you buy any vegetables from her, she just add the cost of the free extras to your purchases...arggggg.

This is ladyfinger or Okra plant but I did not spot any fruit in this plant.

Today is April Fool's day, did any one of you get any pranks played on you? I did play a prank on my hubby. Hubby said I am so childish...lol.
I remembered my late mom would always called me on April Fool's Day and every year she would play the same joke...lol.

She would just called and said she found a huge parcel that contained a lot of money in it and we would always replied her "April Fool's Day". We are so used to the same joke every year...hahahaha.

Vivo City - Marche Restaurant's Little Garden - Fruits

The sight of this brinjal or egg plant growing from the plant really interest me. I did not know the brinjal can grow from a pot. The restaurant's staff must have taken very good care of this little garden, the plants bore fruits so healthily.

Oh I love this too. I saw so many big and round tomatoes growing from this pot.

Some actually are whittering away.

I love tomatoes and they are really very good for the heart.

If you happen to be in Vivo City, do go to the roof top and look for the little garden in front of Marche Restaurant. Very educational for the kids too.

Vivo City - Marche Restuarant - Little Garden

This may looked like a family of cows promoting the Marche's steak restaurant but on closer look, you can see a little garden with plants that actually bear fruits and there are also some herb plants too.

I spotted some chilli plants

More photos coming in later posts.

Earth Hour

My family and I had a sumptous buffet dinner at a local hotel. It was quite dark in there and we had to eat with the help of this little candle. I have to put the candle infront of me so that I can see my food...lol. I am wondering is it because of earth hour or is it the ambience of the hotel cafe. But the buffet is so good.

You can view my food blog for more photos of the buffet.

Chinese New Year - Singapore River Hongbao 2010-Carnival

I have finally managed to post all the Chinese New Year's photos...lol. Been caught up with too many commitments.

Besides exhibiting lots of lantern, there was a mini carnival at the Singapore River Hongbao.

And I love this the most. The kids looked like hamsters in the giant ball. The water in the pool is not very deep.

Chinese New Year 2010 - Singapore River HongBao 2010-Dragon and Phoenix Porcelain Lamp

Sorry that I am so busy to continue with the photos of Singapore River Hongbao 2010 due to my busy commitments.

The Dragon and Phoenix Lantern attracted a lot of attention. They are made of porcelain plates, bowls, cups, spoon, etc. Fantastic.

Difficult to take a good photo with so many spotlights around the lanterns.

A short video showing the lantern.

My World Tuesday - God of Fortune

Oh this is my favourite at the Singapore River Hongbao. This is the God Of Fortune.

It is not raining and why are these girls carrying the umbrella upside down?

If you looked at the two videos below you will know exactly what they are doing. The God of Fortune will released some lucky numbers and these girls are trying to catch the numbers with their umbrellas...lol

The numbers are used to purchase 4D (four digits) lottery. I dont buy 4D lottery so I dont collect these numbers.
I collected some to take photos to show you how they looked like. Some of them have numbers and some dont.

The video shows these girls trying to collect the numbers with their numbers...lol
It was so beautiful that night when the God of Fortune suddenly released more numbers. It looked like it was raining golden showers.

I was standing behind the God of Fortune and as the wind was blowing in my direction, some numbers fall onto me...hahahaha and no I did not use these numbers to purchase any lottery.
