A day out to the movie

Brought my little niece to the movie. No prize for guessing which movie we watch.

Nowadays, our cinemas are not the stand alone building. They are located in malls and each cinema has a few cinemas halls in them and we can watch different movies in a day unlike in the past. Once I watch two different movies in a day, it was fun but tiring...lol.

Okay, I did not watch the 3D version cause I will get migraine if I watch 3D for too long.

Even before we watch the movie, we have to spend money on food....lol. Niece love the popcorn and I love the nachos.

Just outside the cinema, there's a shop which sells everything that's connected with the movies. I love the star wars characters.

My World Tuesday - Shunfu Estate - Part 4 - Plants

Walking around the estate, I could spot those residents living on the ground floor, growing lots of plants. That's one advantage of staying on the ground floor.
These are HDB flats and about 80% of the population stay in these type of flats. They are known as public housing but they dont come cheap. They are in six figures and some are even more expensive than private condominium if they are located near MRT station, amenities and mall. The value of a four room flat (about 100 sq m) can cost about half a million dollars if they are purchased from the open market.

It is cheaper if one bought direct from HDB (housing development board) and they cost about $290,000 for a new four room flat (about 90 sq m) depending on which housing estate they are in. We are allowed to purchase direct from HDB flat twice only and we need to pay a sales levy if we purchased the second flat direct from HDB. (The figure $290,000 is based on a built to order flat that my hubby's nephew bought. Built to order means the flat are all ready except for furniture/cabinets , you just paint and can shift in.)

Most of the plants are grown in pots, they cant grow on the soil cause that's public property.

Spotted a pale pink hibiscus flower, it looked so beautiful.

Shunfu Estate - Part 3 - Recreation for residents

There's a community club for residents in Shunfu Estate and around Thomson Area. Community Club is a centre in the heartlands where residents can learn some courses like foreign languages, flower arrangements, cooking classes, self improvement skills, etc.

I learn some flower arrangements and gifts wrapping in the community club near where I stay. There's also facilities for sports.

This is a resident corner where it is normally located at the ground floor of some HDB Apartment Bocks. The corner serves as a learning centre for arts for children, karoke for residents, etc. It is different from the community club in size and facilities.

A small amphitheatre is always located near the resident corner where residents can watch performance or perform there.
In every other estate, there are same facilities as the above.

Marymount Part 2

Shunfu Estate is a very small town off Marymount Road. Normally, I dont come here cause I dont have any friends staying around here. I used to shop at Thomson Plaza, at Thomson Road which is a road away from Shunfu Estate.

I am surprised to see so many people in the hawker centre despite the town being so quiet and small.

Skywatch Friday - Bishan Fire Station

Going on another exploration of the new circle line seems to be my hobby...lol. Never visited Marymount before so I took the opportunity to try out the new train and visited Marymount. There's nothing much in Marymount except a very quiet neighbourhood.

Opposite the train station, I spotted this new and lovely fire station. Did not know there's a fire station in here. It looked so modern and big. I thought all fire station looked like the one in central. You can view my previous post on the old fire station.
