My World Tuesday-Bedok

This is another old housing estate in Singapore. It is Bedok. Bedok is on the eastern part of Singapore.

You can see many shophouses in here. The shops are mostly non air conditioned and you can bargained for the products you want to purchase unless they have a fixed price tag.

Shophouse meant the ground floor is often used as a shop for business and the owner occupied the 2nd storey as a residential quarter. The higher floors are occupied by other flat owners. Further down the photo, you can see a lift upgrading going on. In the past, lifts stop only at certain floors but as the population aged, lifts are being upgraded to stop at every floor for the convenience of the aged residents.

Bedok is a self contained small town, that have many amenities/facilites eg. bus/train stations, malls, banks, markets, hawker centre (above photo), etc.

Wet market selling poultry, meat, vegetables, etc

This wet market has already been upgraded, it is so much spacious, clean and the floor are dry and not wet.

Skywatch-Friday-St. Joseph's Church

Saint Joseph's Church is a Roman Catholic church in Singapore. The church was constructed from 1906 to 1912 with its foundation-stone laid two years earlier. The building was built in the Gothic style by the Portuguese Mission. For more on this church you can view from source.

Looking at the church from another angle. Geez, I am such a poor photographer...lol.

I took this photo of the church from Waterloo Complex through this rounded structure. If only the small tree would not obstruct the view, it would look better.
The taller building opposite the church is the National Library which I had posted earlier.

Closer look at the church's beautiful windows.

My second sister is a catholic and sometimes she comes to this church for service. My family is like my country, we have buddhist, taoism, christain, catholic and free thinkers and we live in harmony. :)

For other sky watchers, please hop over to Skywatch blog.

A day out to the movie

Yesterday, I brought my eight year old niece out to the movie. She told me it was her first time out to the movies but I think she cannot recall the times when my brother brought her out to the movies when she was much younger...lol. Anyway, she was so excited and happy.
It was a delight to watch the movie with her and both of us was laughing so hard in the cinema. I am a kid all over. Lucky for me I still have a little niece to play with and go out with ....lol. My two grown up sons are too engrossed with their friends and activities to accompany me out for a movie and hubby would only watch movies that are all too boring for me..lol. I wondered what movies we watched while we dated...hehehehe

Can you guess which movies little niece and me watch? Answer will be revealed one day later. :)

National Library - Part 2 - Visitors Centre

Continued from yesterday's post on the National Library of Singapore. I could only show you the outside of the 5th floor visitor Centre. I could not take any photos inside the library and do not want to disturb the people in there too.

Full of greenery outside the visitors centre and users can come here and do their projects or listen to stories being told.

Amazing they could bring tall plants and trees on this fifth floor.

Noticed the glass panels on the side of the buildings, you could see the library inside there.

A sculpture in the visitors centre.

From the visitors's centre, I could view the surrounding area.

Do you remember the Iluma Shopping Centre that I posted in an earlier post.
I will show you more about Iluma in coming post.
