Singapore Zoo - More animals

There are so many animals in the zoo that I am too tired to take photos of them all...lol. The lion's enclosure is a favourite with the visitors.

I guess Rhino must have a fight, it had a wound on its body.

I wondered how the Giraffe sleep.

My World Tuesday - Paper Heart Christmas Tree

This pretty purple christmas tree attracted me cause my favourite colour is purple.

On closer look, I realised it was made of thousands of paper hearts.

The tree is for a good cause. You get to fold the paper heart for the christmas tree if you donate $2 to MILK (Mainly I Love Kids).

You can view more about the cause from this article.

NEX Shopping Mall at Serangoon Central

The weekend is here and a favourite past time of Singaporean is to head to the mall to do some shopping or window shopping and to stock up on groceries for the home.

Nex shopping mall just open on 25th November 2010. It is just the soft opening and I think the official opening is in March next year. The mall is very spacious and have many shops and restaurants and a cinema. Most of the shops are open and the cinema just open few days ago.
It attracted about 70,000 people daily.

The mall has about four storey and two basement of shops and restaurants.
I like this mall because I can find everything under one roof. The best is yet to come. The roof top of the mall consists of a dog park, children playground and a library but they are not open to the public yet.

You can access this mall by taking the MRT and alight at the Serangoon MRT Station via the North East Line or Circle Line. The mall is just above the MRT station.

Skywatch Friday - Singapore zoo - Fragile Forest

This is fragile forest in the Singapore Zoo. What I like best about the fragile forest was that we were up so close to these animals.

Not sure what you called this bird but it was just beside us and apparently the bird was trying to built a nest and it was collecting some dead leaf. Very interesting to see the bird so close to us.

A short video showing the bird.

A flying fox just right in front of us eating some fruits.

There were many flying foxes around us and many beautiful and different types of birds flying around us. I felt like we are in an enchanted forest. Very beautiful.

My World Tuesday - Singapore Zoo - Cheetah

Still posting about my visit to the Singapore Zoo. Son and me had a great time at the zoo. We visited the Cheetah's enclosure.

One part of the enclosure has a glass separated the cheetah from us.
This is so funny and scary. We did not know that the Cheetah could see us through the glass same way as we see it.

My son was trying to take a good picture of the cheetah, so he was moving forward and backward and the cheetah apparently saw my son and it bared its sharp teeth....yikes!

I guess we looked like food to the cheetah...lol.

A short video showing the action of the cheetah. I certainly do not want to be its prey.

Singapore Zoo - Babirusa

The babirusas only know how to eat and sleep...hahaha.

As soon as the zookeeper left some food in the enclosure and reopen the gate for them to re-enter, they rushed for the food...lol. What a funny sight.
The voices in the video belong to some tourists near me.

Singapore Zoo - Orang Utan

This is the sculpture of the famous Orang Utan of Singapore Zoo "Ah Meng". Ah Meng was the icon of the Singapore Zoo, she was first smuggled from Indonesia to Singapore and kept illegally as a housepet before she was discovered by a vet. You can read the rest of her story from Wikipedia.

Ah Meng passed away in 2008 due to old age. A sculpture was built to remember her. Not many animals get this priviledge but Ah Meng is so famous both locally and overseas that she get this special sculpture.

The enclosure of the Orang Utans.

The orang utans get to move around freely and they could actually climb out of their enclosures and move from trees to trees but they normally dont venture far. A zookeeper is around to keep an eye on them.

Ropes and nets are placed around the trees for the orang utans to move freely.

This short video is so cute, an orang utan watching the zookeeper feeding the arowana.

A short vdieo showing the orang utans moving from trees to trees and back to their enclosure.

Singapore Zoo - Proboscis Monkey

Proboscis monkeys are found mostly in freshwater swamp forests of Borneo. Males have a distinctive feature – a pendulous nose that is believed to help resonate their calls and also as an attraction to females. The dominant male always has the largest nose. Often, the nose is so big that the male will need to push it aside while feeding. (Source: Singapore Zoo )

The above photo was taken by my son. I guess my son is the better photographer than me...lol

There's a glass screen between us and the monkey.

Singapore Zoo - Cotton Top Tamarin

As soon as we enter the Singapore Zoo, near the entrance, we saw these cute Cotton Top Tamarin. They are free to jump from tree to tree but they dont venture far, I guess cause there's ready food over here.

The concept of the Singapore Zoo is that most of the animals are not locked up in cages all day, they have spaces to move about. Singapore Zoo displayed animals in naturalistic, 'open' exhibits, i.e. with hidden barriers, behind moats and plants, etc.

My World Tuesday - Singapore Zoo - White Tiger

Been a long time since I last visited the Singapore Zoo. Used to bring my kids there when they were young but when they grew up, they have so much commitments we dont have the time to visit the zoo again.

But recently, my youngest son was on long leave from his national service, he brought me to the zoo. Now it is the other way round...lol. Son bring mom and not mom bring son to the zoo. :)

There's much changes to the zoo since I last visited.

My post for my world tuesday are these rare white tigers. There are three of them in the enclosures.

In 2008 a worker from Malaysia had jumped into a moat at the white tiger enclave and was subsequently mauled to death by the white tigers.

"Prior to the incident, the zookeepers had actually noticed that the contract worker was behaving erratically.

"He was throwing things around and as he was walking out of the zoo, he passed comments like 'Goodbye, you won't see me again'. He later cycled back and 5 minutes later, the alarm went off." (Source: Channel News Asia )

Some kindergarten kids near me were making so much noise that it attracted the tiger. The way the tiger was walking up and down made me nervous, I thought it was like the tiger was checking its prey.
A short video on the white tiger.
