Sentosa - Images of Singapore Part 1

Took these photos last November but was too busy to sort them out.

Had a great time visiting Sentosa. The Images of Singapore showcase the history of Old Singapore. It is very interesting and very worth visiting.

We were viewing a short movie about the different cultures of Singapore and where our forefathers come from.

These are just some exhibits show casing the coolies (labourers) taking a rest in their quarters. These coolies mostly come from China and worked in Singapore as coolies to pay for their journey from China to Singapore.

A ma jie (house servant cum babysitter) seeking the help of a writer to write a letter back to her family in China. Most of these ma jie come from Singapore and they vow never to marry. They came to Singapore during the early fifties to earn more money to send back to their family in China.

A female construction worker also know as Samsui women. They worked mostly at construction sites in the 1950s. They carried rocks, dug holes and conducted menial work that defied their small physical stature. They wore a red head dress which became their trademark feature. You can read more about them from infopedia.

A milkman delivering fresh milk to our door steps. Nowadays we get our milk from the supermarket. The milkman is no longer seen in Singapore.

City Square Mall (Part 2) - Farrer Park

Continued from yesterday post on City Square Mall.

These two are the mall's official eco-ambassador and they are looking for names. There's a promotion to name them in a contest at the mall.

A short video showing the food court in the mall.

City Square Mall at Farrer Park

Another new mall that open last year. It is a eco friendly mall, which means it is going green and saving energy. You can read more about it from their official website.

There are many such sculptures around the mall.

As the mall is very new, it has a prize of a car just for shopping there.

Skywatch Friday - Kite Flying with plane in the background

We have so much fun flying kites during our getaway during christmas at the resort. The weather was fine and very windy. A perfect day for kite flying. I did most of the videographing and photography while sons, nieces, nephews and siblings flew those kites. Some kites did not make it up the sky.

Oh I love the kite that looked like a lizard. It flew so high up.
We attract quite a lot of attention with our kites, even tourists wanted to take photos of the kites...lol

As the beach is near the airport, we get to see the planes landing.

A short videos showing the kites flying but not as high as the plane.

Can you spot the lizard looking kite? It is high up in the sky in the below video.

For other sky watchers, please hop over to Skywatch blog.

Christmas Celebration

Ok, we dont have a christmas tree in the resort bungalow but we still make do by putting all the christmas presents together.

I like this cute present, it is actually a towel folded to look like a puppy.

Turkey

And lots of other food too besides the BBQ.

Getaway at Safra Resort at Changi

Continued from previous posting on my getaway to a corner of Singapore during christmas.

It is play, eat, sleep and more fun at the resort.

Using my new camera, I capture the swimming pool and the play pool.
We are so lucky that we get to cycle too because the weather was fine. No rain and no hot sun, a perfect day for cycling.

A short video of what I saw at the beach. The resort is quite near to the airport.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

A very happy new year to everyone. I have such a nice time being just lazy and away from the computer. I was away at a resort in a corner of Singapore, from christmas till end of the year...was so much fun and we did so much during these few days and I dont feel like coming home...lol
Have fun with my new camera using the panorama feature, i.e. to capture three photos in one large photo.

This is how the chalet looked like with all the bungalows in one photo.

The interior of the bungalow.

The golf course at the resort.

The bowling centre and there are also the swimming pool, karaoke, arcade, etc... I will feature our fun in later posts on kite flying, bbq, etc
I know christmas is over but could not resist posting this video of the cute snowman and look what is inside the gift box.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR

I am ending this year with this post on Christmas. I am going for a short christmas break (but will still be in a corner of Singapore). I am not sure if I can get hold of the internet and comments posted might take a while to be published and approved once I get hold of a computer.

So here's wishing all my readers a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and may 2010 be a better year for all of us.

This is my favourite window display in Orchard Road. It belongs to Robinson at Centrepoint. I love shopping at Robinson cause they have a lot of varities and sales all year round. And the best part was their staffs are very friendly and knows their products well.

This year the tour bus for christmas is not free and I think tourists need to pay a fee. You can get tickets for the bus at the Visitor Centre in Orchard Road.
Orchard Central Mall is so beautiful at night and it seems to be dancing. I spend quite sometime looking at the beautiful building and listening to the music coming from it. The feeling on the street is just great.

Two short videos on the lights at Orchard Central Shopping Mall.
See you all in 2010.

Christmas at Vivo City

Guess who is this tall man? He is looking at the going to be open Universal Studio, Singapore on Sentosa Island. Is he looking forward to the theme park as much as I am?

He is none other than Mr. Snowman. :)

Christmas Tree on the roof top of Vivo City.

Hubby gave me the idea of taking the photo of the tree with the reflection in the small waving pool. The pool is not deep, they are for kids running and playing in them.

My World Tuesday-Snowman Carousel

This is the other part of Orchard Road where the lightings are different from the photos I posted last week. The theme over here are snowmen.
Looking up above me, are these beautiful lights hung up in the tree.

Oh I love this photo, the reflection in the water (caused by an earlier rain) looked like there are two carousels.
A short video showing the surroundings. Can you recognize ION Orchard diagonally from where I am standing. I posted a lot of photos on ION Orchard in my blog, so I guess you are all very familar with it already. :)

Please visit "That's my World" for other parts of the world.
