Chinese New Year 2013 - Red Packets

This year, got some very beautiful red packets (or ang pows/hong bao) from the respective banks.

I love the red packets with the pandas the best from Standard Chartered Bank. Red packets are given during Chinese New Year or good occasion like weddings or birthdays. Red packets is usually given out by married couples. The amount of money contained in the red packets usually ends with an even digit, 8, 18, 88 and 168 are all lucky numbers (which sounds like prosper in mandarin) and odd-numbered money gifts are traditionally associated with funerals.

I never knew that about the odd and even numbers when you give money. Really interesting.
