Skywatch Friday

Was walking along Singapore River and impressed by the neat rows of colonial building and new buildings. But the building that caught my eye looked like the flying spaceship. It is actually Singapore Supreme Court

Another building with a ship lookalike was the Marina Bay Sands. Look as if a ship has been blown onto the top of the building.

Doraemon (Xiao Ding Dang) Christmas Tree at One Raffles Place

I was at One Raffles Place, in the busy financial district of Singapore. Saw this huge christmas tree made out of cute Doraemon Stuff Toys. They are so cute. I guess after the christmas the toys would be sold and donated to charity.

There's a contest going on to guess how many stuff toys of Doraemon used to make this tree. I did not join the contest.

Pink Saturday - Christmas Decoration at Orchard Central Shopping Mall

This year, Orchard Central Shopping Mall was voted by the public as the best dressed for christmas decoration in Orchard Road. I love it too, lots of fairy and unicorn. Lots of pink too so I thought I would like to join this week Pink Saturday.

Saw two huge shoes in the mall, hmmm seems like both are right footed.

Lots of mannequins in and around the mall, looks unique and attractive.

A pink wishing well, people actually tossed coins into the well to make wishes.

A pink swing, oh this is my favourite.

Christmas 2014 on Pedestrian Night in Orchard road, Singapore

Last Saturday night was pedestrian night, the third closure of part of Orchard Road for the pedestrian night. The theme for the 3rd pedestrian night was Christmas on a great street. You can read more about the six month event on Pedestrian night from official website.

Was great that part of Orchard Road was closed, easier to take photos of the christmas decoration along the street, but my photography skills was terrible lol.

Even our Merlion was out on Orchard Road celebrating christmas.

This is a rather new mascot, little durian star. the mascot for Singapore at the World Expo in Shanghai in 2010.

Christmas tree infront of Heeren.

Christmas tree at Ion Orchard

Difficult to take good photos of christmas decoratiion at Ion Orchard, too many people.

Short Video of event going on during Pedestrian Night at Orchard Road, featuring local singers Jack and Rai.

Seletar Mall

There's a new shopping mall called Seletar Mall in one of the furthest corner of Singapore on the east side. For those not familar (especially tourists), you can take the MRT train (NEL Line (purple colour)) to Sengkang MRT Station and dont exit the station on arrival, take the escalator to the LRT platform (top level in the station) and take the LRT train to Fernvale Station (SW5) on the west loop (dont take the East loop). The mall is just next to Fernvale LRT Station.

The duration of the driveless train is quite frequent so dont worry about rushing to board the LRT Train.

Inside the mall, almost the same as any malls around Singapore with lots of restaurants, food court, eateries, etc but as the mall is new, the queue to eat in the restaurants are pretty long.

Spotted a huge christmas tree in the mall, is beautiful, was made out of recycled bottles.

We did not want to queue to eat in the mall, so we exit the mall and headed to fernvale point (neighbourhood shops/coffeeshop) just next to the mall.

It is not air conditioned but the outdoor seating had lots of fans so is quite comfy to eat here and the food is good too with reasonable prices.

I dont stay around here so is nice to walk around the neighbourhood. Interesting to spot a cobbler having some business repairing shoes. This is a dying trade, not many street cobbler can be found around Singapore anymore. I know there's still some at People Park Complex.

Sengkang is a pretty young town, with lots of new flats. These flats are known as HDB flats (not private condominium), although they are subsidized and known as public housing, they are really not cheap and are in the six figure sum in S$. Standard of living in Singapore has really risen a lot.
