Merlion

The Merlion was first designed as an emblem for the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in 1964 – the lion head with a fish body resting on a crest of waves quickly became Singapore’s icon to the rest of the world.

The fish tail of the Merlion symbolises the ancient city of Temasek (meaning “sea” in Javanese) by which Singapore was known before the Prince named it “Singapura” (meaning “lion” (singa) “city” (pura) in Sanskrit), and represents Singapore’s humble beginnings as a fishing village. The merlion is facing the uncompleted integrated resort owned by Las Vegas Sands Corporation. The much talked about resort because of its casino being the first time being allowed on Singapore Land.

Esplanade Singapore

Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay is one of the world's busiest arts centres, officially opened on 12 October 2002. This architectural icon with its distinctive twin shells, is sited within Singapore's civic district, just by Marina Bay at the mouth of the Singapore River.I tried to take a nice photo of esplanade too but I just dont get the correct position to take a nice photo.

Ok, managed to get a photo of one half of the thorny roof (hahaha)
This photo shot looked good. Closer view of the thorny roof. Does it looked like our favourite fruit - durian (the king of fruit)

Closer View-I think I taken a nice shot (hehehe

Vivo City (inside the mall)

Vivo City was officially opened on 1st December 2006. It is just one of the many shopping malls in Singapore (a shopping and food paradise).

Sometimes it get so crowded but the good thing is Vivo City is very big and spacious for all.

I love taking photos of escalators. But I think I did not take a good photo of it. I guess it was because of my fear of heights......lol (Look at my other posting on escalators.....http://alicesgdiary.blogspot.com/2007/11/escalators.html)

The interior and colour of vivo city is very nice and soothing. I like simple colours and not too loud colours, it make shopping more relaxing....

And who could have forgotten about food. There are many restaurants in vivo city and of course food courts with different ethnic food that is inexpensive. Kopitiam is a non-halal food court.

Banquet food court is a halal food court means it served no pork. Isn't it great with the wide range of choices of food in Singapore.

Bum Boats Singapore

In Old Singapore, bumboats were extensively used for transport purposes along the Singapore River, Rochore and Kallang Rivers, and also along the coast of the mainland and the other nearby islands.
But today, there are few bumboats left. Bumboats are converted as river-taxis ferry passengers mainly tourists along this historic waterway, Singapore River, for unique sightseeing and pleasure rides up and down river. Pickup and disembarkation points are along Boat Quay and Clake Quay.
The bigger bumboats are converted to restaurants. The buildings along Singapore River used to be warehouses but they are now converted to pubs and restaurants.

There are several bridges of different designs along Singapore River. Picture shows Read Bridge.
