Celebrate Christmas In Singapore (CCIS) Floats 2008

Hahaha, I was lucky to catch these floats on 19th December 2008, as I was about to cross the road from Orchard MRT Station towards Wheellock Place. Was wondering why there were so many traffic policemen stopping their bikes in the middle of the road.

Although I had a close up view of the floats, I was multi tasking, taking the camera out of bag, snap the photos and trying to cross the road...lol. So some of the photos were quite blur.

These eight floats just started parading along Orchard Road and seven floats will then start touring heartlands of Singapore, stopping at various venues on different nights, to spread the christmas joy.

Now what about eighth float? Scroll down to see where the no. 8 float will be.
Sorry for a very blurred photo, we have to hurry to cross the road.

This is the number eighth float which will be parked at Plaza Singapura and will later return to Orchard Road to rejoin the other seven floats on 25th December for the Christmas Day Grand Concert.

Do hurry down to see the float at Plaza Singapura.

Details of the float can be view at CCIS website.

Christmas Decoration inside Centrepoint (Part 2)

This is the interior of Centrepoint. There are so many shops to do your shopping.
These huge candeliers are part of the christmas decorations. They are so beautiful and elegant.

It is a mammoth job to hang and clean them too.

The crystals looked like they are floating in space.

Christmas Decoration at Centrepoint, Orchard Road (Part 1)

Loves shopping in Centrepoint. You can noticed a newspaper vendor in the first photo. These vendors are legal, they had permits to sell their papers there.
At night, these lights would be lighted and they are very beautiful.
The huge window display always attracted me with the beautiful clothes the mannequins wore.

Please return tomorrow to view the interior christmas decoration of centrepoint with beautiful chandeliers.

Skywatch - View from the plane

These photos were taken when I travelled to Melbourne. It was a night flight but because of the time difference, it was morning in Australia. When we were about halfway in our journey we could see that half the plane was in darkness while the other half was almost bright. Cool eh! We flew over the equator. :)

The sky nearer to our windows are still in darkness while the other half we could see the sun ray. It was a wonderful experience and I think most passengers did not experienced it cause they were all snoozing away.
It was so wonderful to see the clouds below us.

Almost reaching Melbourne, we could see the land below.

Car Parking

Ut oh this car park warden is issuing a parking fine to the car (behind the van) for exceeding its parking time limit.

In my part of the world, there are three modes of parking in Singapore - coupon parking, paid parking and season parking.

For coupon parking....parking coupons should be displayed on the dashboard so that car park warden can view it. You just tear tabs on the coupons to show the day, month , year and time you parked your car.

Paid parking is practised in almost all shopping centres, buildings and some public car parks. You basically pay for the time your vehicle is parked.

Season parking is usually applicable to tenants and residents at their office and residential car parks respectively.

For more information on car parking, you could view source from here.

This is the whole roast pig from the bridegroom to be given to the bride's family.

Traditions (Still being practised in Singapore)

Pig [猪] in cantonese "ju" sounds the same as [宫纱珠] "kong sa ju", the chinese legendary sign of virginity. The [宫纱珠] "kong sa ju", a red dot placed on a girl's forearm as a virgin, was said to disappear when she lost her chastity.

If the groom was satisfied that his wife was married as a virgin, a gift of roast pig complete with tail would accompany the bride's home visit. If not, the roast pig's tail or ears were broke off.

For more information on the above, you can view the source from here.

Wedding

For privacy reasons, sorry you cant see the photos of the wedding couple.

Hand bouquet of bride, I love the strand of pearls with the beautiful flowers.

Five tiers wedding cake and yes it is a dummy cake.

Champagne glasses to toast to relatives and friends. I swear the champagne tasted extra good. :)

The "His" and "Her" gift boxes to contain gift of money from well wishes. Most people would give "Hong Bao" or red packets consisting of money as gifts to the wedding couples. Sometimes people are very generous with the gifts and there are some who are rather stingy. Sometimes the gifts can covered the cost of the wedding dinner but most of the time the gifts could not covered the cost of the wedding dinner as it becoming more expensive to hold wedding dinners in hotels. Each table could cost about $700+ to $1000+ or more in grand hotels.

End of the wedding dinner. Now wishing next year, I could be a grand aunt. :)

Pink Saturday - Wedding

My contribution for Pink Saturday are these pink flowers. Attended my husband's nephew wedding. Was a very beautiful wedding. This wedding couple in a heart shaped accessory is on top of a few tiers wedding cake.

Beautiful floral arrangement with candles on the VIP table (i.e. the wedding couple and their closed family members). My family and me had the priviledge of sitting with the wedding couple at this VIP table.

Pink roses flanking a lighted candle. It is so beautiful and romatic.

This is a pink rose too but I wondered why it appeared to be orange in colour, could be due to the lighting above it.

You can see some of the roses are pink and those roses facing me appeared orange.

This is the whole deco. piece.

Took this when most of the guests are leaving after the wedding dinner.

Will post more about the wedding in future posts.
