Orchard Central - Roof Garden -, The Stairs, The Clouds and The Sky Sculptures Part 1

On the 12th Floor of Orchard Central Roof Garden, there are several sculptures worth taking photos of.

Need to stand at different angle to take good photo shots of the sculptures and the sculptures can move when the wind blows. Very well done sculptures.

From this angle, the sculpture looked like missing a head. :)

Skywatch Friday - Peranakan Museum - The building

After all the walking from the Bras Basah MRT Station to the National Museum of Singapore and passing by The SubStation and we finally arrived at The Peranakan Museum about 10 to 15 minutes depending on how fast you walked. I was slower cause I stop to take photos along the way. This reminds me that I forgot to post photos of the Bras Basah MRT Station...lol.

The museum showcase the culture and collections of the Peranakans.

Peranakan Chinese and Baba-Nyonya are terms used for the descendants of late 15th and 16th-century Chinese immigrants to the Nusantara region during the Colonial era. Members of this community in Melaka address themselves as "Nyonya Baba" instead of "Baba-Nyonya". Nyonya is the term for the ladies and Baba for the gentlemen. You can find out more about their culture and history from Wikipedia.

A VISIT TO THE MUSEUM: TAKING THE PAST FORWARD (2000) by Chern Lian Shan.

The sculpture is that of an old man holding a young girl and there is a third figure, a woman installed on the second floor balcony of the building. The girl is pointing to the woman. Can you spot the woman in the below photo (circled in red). Sorry, forgot to zoom on the woman sculpture.

The family represents a three generation family.

From 26 May till 3 July 2011, there's a promotion which gives free admission to the museum for all men aged between 1 to 100 years old. Accompanying women will also enjoy a 50% discount on the usual museum admission of $6. You can read more from the official website

More photos on the peranakan museum coming in later post. Very interesting museum.

For other sky watchers, please hop over to Skywatch blog.

My World Tuesday - National Museum

I was on my way to the Peranakan Museum when I passed by the Singapore National Museum. Saw these scultpures that were sitting infront of the museum.

The sculptures were the works of Taiwanese artist Ju Ming. It was done in 1986. You can read or view more of his works in his official website

These displays infront of the museum looked like trumpets. The Domescape was by Butterpaper Designs, BusyBody and Lin Zihao (Singapore). I guess it worked like a telescope to view the museum.

It was part of the display for the June School holidays. You can read more about it in here.

The museum was undergoing some painting works when I was there. You can view more about the Singapore National Museum in my earlier posts.

My World Tuesday - The Thinker

Saw this sculpture known as The Thinker at the Resort World Sentosa. I was wondering why is he always deep in thought..lol. So lately, are you thinking a lot? I am thinking about my trip. :)

I like the side view of the sculpture. The guy in the background must be thinking too...lol.

Back view of the sculpture.

Sculpture

If you like arts and sculptures, Orchard Central is for you. Almost every floor, you can be fascinated by many sculptures. You can view my previous postings of the other sculptures in here. There are more sculptures and arts in Orchard Central, which I have not taken any photos yet.

Not sure what this sculpture is but it looked like a nut to me.

This flower pot looked just like the sculpture in the above photo.

Hort Park 2 - Sculptures

Some of the sculptures I saw in Hort Park. There are more but there are too many people there for me to spot more.

This must be the tin man in the story of Wizard of Oz

And I found the lion but I missed the scarecrow and dorothy, too many people in the park for me to spot them.

My World Tuesday-Orchard Central - Arts - Tall Girl

Today, I hop to a new mall which is not branded mall but affordable to everyone and this mall is all about food and arts. I am sure many like this mall. So does this tall girl. She is so tall that I could not capture her in my wide screen camera.
Even her boots are more than one storey tall.

There are many art sculptures around the mall. But when I was there last month, the mall was not fully opened yet, so I could only take photos of some arts only.

A short video of tall girl and you can see how tall she really is.
You have to return to see more window displays and a rock climbing wall in the mall in my next few posts.

White Cat

Saw this huge cat sculpture in Waterfront Copthorne Hotel, Singapore.

It is quite huge cause when I spread my two hands across, I could not touch the head and tail altogether and maybe because I dont have very long hands to begin with .....lol.

My World Tuesday - Sculpture Square

This is a methodist church known as Kampong Kapor Methodist Church at Middle Road. It has a long history and is one of the oldest church in Singapore and protected as a heritage building. It has since moved to a new location and this present church is part of the sculpture square.

The church was formerly known as "Malay Church" because they conduct their services in malay to cater to malay speaking christains. For more of its rich history you can view their offical website.

Love the beautiful windows of the church.

Around the church you can also see lots of sculptures.

For more information on the sculpture square you can view their official website .

Sentosa Flower Show 2009 - Palawan Beach Part 3 - Sculpture Exhibition/Competition

Continuing from my yesterday's post on the sculpture exhibition/competition using recycled items.

This pot using rows of hose as the body of the pot/kettle looked so new to me. I thought they are supposed to use recycled items. No wonder they dont get first prize.

I like the way they used the umbrella as decoration.

Even spades are used for this sculpture...very clever.
A scarecrow sculpture...this is cute.

And the winner is the above photo - surprised? I too thought so but looked at their sculptures they really used recycled items. Well Done.

More sculptures found on the beach.
Please return to visit more on Sentosa Flower Show 2009.
