Pink Saturday-Visit to the Museum (Part 2)-Art on Site

My pink contribution for Pink Saturday is this cute art exhibition in The National Museum of Singapore. This Rotunda on Level 1 of the museum always has different displays here. It is the centrepiece.

This artpiece is known as Love Tank (The Temple) and created by S. Teddy D (Indonesia).

Tanks, synonymous with the landscape of war, are instrumental war machines in the propagation of western supremacy.

Pagoda, adorned with lotuses and often part of a temple compound, believed to be the padmasana, the seats of gods and goddesses who rule this world, is the shape of temples and a symbol for the levels of pure love in Eastern cultures.

This work expresses the interaction between the East and West cultures – an interaction which often ends in clashes. The adaptation of these cultures is symbolised through the visual language of seven tanks stacked on top of one another forming a tall structure resembling a Pagoda. The tanks are decorated or camouflaged with red lotuses and the juxtaposition transforms the killing machine into one that conveys love and peace to humankind. (Source taken from National Museum.

Tea Sets

My contribution for Pink Saturday are these cute tea sets. Do you have the same problem as me for receiving presents that you have no use at all? I think I am going to set up a stall and start selling all the gifts that I dont use ....lol....then I use the money I earn and buy something I like. :)

The teapot and teacups have cute pictures of the giraffes.

And if you stack the two cups together, they gave a picture of the whole animal. So cute, I guess they are meant for lovers or partners. And no hubby and me dont use these cups...lol
Another teaset collection for lovers/partners.

The cup and saucer are in the shape of a heart.

Pink Saturday - $2 shop

My pink contribution for this Saturday are these $2 products that I got from the $2 shop. It is so worth. Each item is only $2 and you just walked up to the cashier, she will count the number of items in your basket and times $2 and you pay for the total price.

Boxes to keep my crafts and batteries/memory cards for my camera.

Even these needles with the big eye hole that I needed for my crochet/knitting cost me $2 for a set of three. Been hunting for these needles for a long time. Great find. :)
I love the pink wool and I made a granny square but you will have to wait a long time for the finished product cause I need to make more squares and joined them together and it is very time consuming.

Meanwhile I get to crochet a scarf and I like it so much. I am not an expert so it is a bit untidy but seeing the scarf getting longer, the satisfaction is there.
I am almost done with the scarf and I need to crochet another 10 cm more. Took me about less than 3 days to finish this length during TV commercials...lol.

Pink Saturday-Downtown East (Part 2)-FerrisWheel

My pink contribution for pink saturday will be the pink lights on the ferri wheels.

I did not go for the ride as it was an indoor ferris wheel, I prefer to be an outdoor one.

A short video of the ferris wheel indoor.

Train rides and horse carousel are kids' delights.

This entertainment complex is found in downtown east where most families and the young love it. I will feature on the resort next week.

Pink Saturday-Bazaar

My Pink contribution today will be this bazaar in Chinatown, Singapore.

Lots of artificial flowers on sale at this stall. Spotted any pink flowers?

The couple on the right are my pink subjects in this photo. Also in my photo is the guy wearing orange tee shirt holding a camera. He is so funny. I was actually not taking photo of him but the background behind him. Did not realise that he too find me funny...lol. Take a look at the next photo to see what I meant.

He decided to take my photo too cause he thought I was snapping a photo of him....lol. I did not realised till I looked at my computer and see this funny photo. He looked like a tourist to me. If I knew, I would pose or make funny face for him...hehehehe.

Inside the bazzar are rows of stalls selling all different kinds of things. From clothings to food and it was hot inside cause it is not air conditioned. Best to visit a bazaar must be the night time.

This is one of the few stalls that I like to stop and take a look and I bought some threads and buttons.

They also sell all the daily necessities that one needed. It is so useful to have these stalls at the bazaar.

On the extreme left of this photo are scratchers where you could scratch your back if your hands cant reach the itchy part. On the extreme right of the photo are canes. These canes are not for walking but for whacking....hehehe.
This is a very sensitive topic. I guess most my age (49years) in Asia might probably have caned by our parents. I remembered being caned once only by my mom because I had a fight with my sister....lol.
There's a saying Spare the Rod and Spoil the Child. Many might see this as abuse but some might called it discipline. But there are some who abuse the cane and beaten their kids real bad. As for me, I cane my sons when they fight in school. Most of the time, the cane was hanging by the cupboard to remind them to behave...lol.
Using the cane need special skill.....lol You must know the rules, no caning on other parts of the body except the butt and no marks must be left on them otherwise it will be abuse. But kids are very smart nowadays, they hid the canes from their parents. But not everyone over here use the canes.
For illegals coming to Singapore, beware you not only will be jailed but caned with two strokes. Please come here legally.

I think these orchids belong to the Laeliocattleya

Here's a short video of some of my favourite orchids. There are more photos of more orchids but these are just some of my best. I use microsoft movie maker to make this short slide of my orchids and included a favourite song of mine. It is "Times of Your Life" by Paul Anka.

Pink Saturday-Shopping Bags

My contribution for pink saturday are these shopping bags. I was clearing and packing my already untidy storeroom. Saw these shopping bags tucked in a corner. I know I am suppose to recycle them but some of them are so beautiful. So they ended up sitting in a corner of my storeroom.

The problems about the shopowners in here and from my overseas trips were that they wanted customers to carry their bags so as to advertise for them....lol.

I am good yesterday when I went shopping with my friend, declined the bags and put my purchases in my huge handbag. :) Today being Saturday is Earth Hour. Do join the earth hour by switching your lights off for an hour from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm in your own country time. You can visit earthhour website.

These are shopping bags from my shopping spree here and overseas collected for many years. They are too pretty to be recycled or destroyed. The best is not to ask for shopping bags.

Here are some pretty ones, the most useful bags must be those brown paper bags which are earth friendly.

I like this pretty bag very much, was a bag given when I bought the mooncakes, it was about two years ago.

Cute picture

From Shanghai Olympic Shopping

Mad about shopping bags.
This post is to make all of us aware of the sick earth. I am not 100% perfect but I will try my very best to be conscious of the environment.
Things that I already done
Recycled empty jars, gave my old newspaper to the rag and bone man or the community club for recycling, ask for less shopping bags during my shopping spree, switch off all electrical appliances when not in use.

My contribution for Pink Saturday are coasters. These coasters in the shape of Japanese Kimono are so cute. I kept them in safe place and never use them....lol. They are too pretty to be use.

I love the little flowers and prints on them.

These glass coasters are not pink in colour but as I am on the subject of coasters, I thought I put them here too. They are wedding gifts when I attended a wedding.
