My World Tuesday- Gardens By The Bay

This is the latest attraction in Singapore. Gardens By The Bay almost 101 hectares is a very expensive garden, costs almost S$1 billion dollars to built. The aim is to raise the quality of life by enhancing greenery and flora in the city.

The garden consists of three gardens, Bay South, Bay East and Bay Central. You can read more about the three gardens from wikipedia or the official website of Gardens By The Bay.

The main attractions in the Garden must be the two domes (forest cloud and flower dome)with high admission fees of $28 for tourist and $20 for locals and the admission fees of $5 for walking on the skywalk bridge among the supertrees. I will talk about and post photos of the domes in coming posts. For more information on the different admission fees, please refer to the official website of Gardens By The Bay Admission Fees.

Climbing up or take the lift up to the bridge linking the supertrees need to pay S$5 to view the scenery from the top. Very nice experience, no queues in the afternoon as there's no shelter at the bridge from the sun but I was lucky that day was a cloudy day so I had a fun time walking along the bridge and admiring the beauty of the scenery around it. Even though, I have a fear of heights, I just want to experience the view from up there.

From the bridge, we could view nearby Marina Bay Sands Hotel, nice to take photos from up there.

From the top of the bridge, I spotted three graduates of a local university trying to take photos of themselves at the garden.

My World Tuesday - Marina Bay Sand Rain Oculus

This art installation is located where Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands' retail mall and the Waterfront Promenade meet.

Ned Kahn’s Rain Oculus is a 22-meter diameter acrylic bowl set on a 90-ton steel structure. It releases a swirling vortex of water from a hole in its base to the canal that runs two stories below.

The rain oculus started from the upper level which collect rain water and at certain times of the day, the rain water will flow through the centre hole and flow into the lower level into the small canal and the water was also been recycled for other uses.

The water will swirl round the bowl and flow down like a waterfall, very interesting to view. The boatman will row the boat around the area to the delight its passengers.

Visitors to Marina Bay Sands also uses the huge bowl like a wishing well and tossing coins into it. The target was getting the coin into the hole.

A short video of the water being released from the bowl into the canal.

My World Tuesday - Skating at Marina Bay Sands

Was at Marina Bay Sands, was surprised to see a skating ring inside MBS, the skating floor is not real ice but synthetic surface, which is as close as skating on real ice.

Cost: $7 per hour for adults and $6 per hour for children, with skates rental at $3 for the first hour. The skating rink just opened this month. I think they should also provide helmets, looked so dangerous to me. Will the kids fall on the floor and hit their heads? But what do I know about skating, I dont skate.

A short video of the skating rink from the above.

Skywatch Friday - Singapore Skyline

Looking at Singapore skyline from Marina Boulevard. Usually we will look at the skyline from Esplanade or Marina Bay Sands Hotel so this time I take a reverse view of the skyline. The above photo where two tortoise like shells is the Esplanade (theatre).

The 3.5km waterfront promenade provides a continuous route linking the Marina Centre, Collyer Quay and Bayfront areas.

Taking a stroll from Marina Bay Sands towards Marina Boulevard via the Marina Waterfront. Best to walk in the evening or night where the weather is cooler.

‘Mist Walk’ – a 250-m long sculptural, tubular stainless steel structure that sprays clouds of mist to reduce ambient temperature and provide a cooling experience in the day. Note in the above photo, clouds of mist spraying out.

View of uncompleted office buildings at Marina Boulevard. This is the new financial district of Singapore. There's also condominium in here and they are really costly. Some of these buildings comes with energy-saving, high impact glass floor-to-ceiling windows and doors

Right in the middle of all the tall buildings in Marina Boulevard is a green square where activities are conducted. Spotted this group of teenagers having some promotion for their activities.

Short video of the Singapore skyline from Marina Boulevard.

Skywatch Friday - Marina Bay Sands Hotels

Marina Bay Sands was officially opened two days ago.

Marina Bay Sands Hotel - it comprises of three 55 storey towers. The three towers are connected by a roof which is known as the Skypark. The Skypark has a 360 degrees view of Singapore. It must be very beautiful. Visitors can view Singapore from the skypark and it is free for hotel guests while others have to pay $20 to visit the skypark.

I am not sure if I want to pay $20 to view from the top. I can just go to any highrise buildings to view Singapore free of charge....lol. But I might change my mind...hahaha.

I am very impressed by the whole building. The roof looked like a space ship or boat.

The hotel and The Shoppes (which I had posted earlier) are connected via a bridge.

On the official opening, 21 climbers from different countries were invited to climb up the three towers. The winner of the climbing competition is from Singapore. Yayyyyyy. You can view more news and photos from the MBS official website.

Love the reflection of the clouds on the window panels of the hotel.

How to go to Marina Bay Sands:

Marina Bay Sands - Casino

Inside at a corner of the The Shoppes of Marina Bay Sands is the Casino.

The casino is very popular with many. Foreigners can go in free of charge to gamble while Singaporeans need to pay a levy of $100 to enter (valid for 24 hours) or $2000 for annual entry levy. Those under 21 are not allowed to enter.

Security is tight and anxious at the entrance of the Casino. If any Singaporeans managed to sneak in without paying the levy, the casino has to pay a fine.

I did not pay $100 just to enter and have a look and neither did I wanted to gamble. Even when I was overseas, I dont have any interest to gamble. The most I did was to donate money at the jackpot slot machines....lol.

MarinaBaySands - The Shoppes Part 2

The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands is so huge and not all the shops are open, I was so tired just walking around the place.

The signboard tells you all, there's the celebrity restaurants, Expo and Convention Centre, Casino, Hotel, etc.

There are two basements of shopping, I think. A lot of places boarded up so I cant really tell...lol.
There are shops that sold branded goods but there are just as many shops that are affordable to the average shoppers. So if you are around Marina, do pop over here to do some shopping or window shopping. It is a nice place just to shop or have meals/coffee with your friends.

The food court at the basement, very small and not enough seats. I think when completed, there's a bigger food court. It will be silly if there's no bigger food court in this big complex cause not everyone wanted to eat in restaurants.

This is a small stream in The Shoppes. There will be boats for those who loves to take a ride in it. I guess you got to pay for it. It is not completed yet.

My World Tuesday - Marinabaysands - The Shoppes (Part 1)

Marina Bay Sands is an integrated resort that comprises of hotels, expo and convention centre, casino, celebrity chef restaurants, eating outlets, shopping centre, museums, etc. It is developed by Las Vegas Sands. Marina Bay Sands is the world's second-costliest casino.

Las Vegas Sands named the project as one of the world's most challenging construction projects and certainly the most expensive stand-alone integrated resort property ever built.

For more information on MarinaBaySands, you can view from wikipedia.

This is the inside of The Shoppes of MarinaBaySands. Look how huge it is. I am so impressed.

Wait till you see the hotels of MarinaBaySands (photos of Hotel - coming soon in this blog).

Many of the shops are still not open and under going renovation.
The roof of The Shoppes is really huge and it is energy saving in that sunlight can come into the shopping area and lights are not really needed during the day.

Looked at the circled area in red. There are some construction workers walking on the roof top still doing some renovation works.

A short video showing The Shoppes
