This is ION Orchard which is opposite CK Tang. It is a high-rise residential condominium cum shopping mall. It is expected to be completed end of this year. You can read more about it in here.
This mall is so big and the escalator is facing the main road. Glad they kept the trees otherwise it looked like a concrete jungle. It is an offence to cut down trees in here, you need permit to cut down trees. You can read more about the mall in here.
Another yet to be completed shopping mall called Lluma Shopping Centre opposite Bugis Junction.
The star and hexagon shaped structures will be lighted when completed. This shopping centre will looked very lovely at night.
With so many shopping malls, we are spoilt with choices...lol. But I hope they dont sell the same stuff in the malls. We can always see the same brand of shops in almost every shopping mall. I am not a shopalcoholic. During good times, I shop less cause things are too expensive and not worth to buy but during the bad times, the many discounts and good deals allowed me to buy the things that I have been eyeing for a long time.....yayyyyy....lol.
I wonder what will become of these places. These are dramatic shots, Alice. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThose malls look really wonderful, I hope they function well too. Recession has hit hard.
ReplyDeletewow! that's huge and it has nice modern type architecture. more and more shopping malls in singapore.
ReplyDeleteI can't even believe all your shopping opportunities!
ReplyDeleteIt can be a bit worrisome if there is a construction going on with no clear future of an economic boom soon.
ReplyDeleteBut the good thing is people go to Singapore to shop, so there is life for more shopping malls, I think.
I like the contrast between the trees and futuristic malls. Glad to know that the trees are looked after. :)
ReplyDeletewow..more malls to the many ones in Orchard, and yes, I do hope that they will do well or at least survive these tough times. Will link you up so I can visit often, have a great week ;D
ReplyDeleteThe photographs are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhy do identical monumental old buildings are demolished for that super-modern shopping centers?
Here is exactly same, I understand nothing in Europe to disappear in this way the most beautiful buildings for those shopping centers.
I like stores themselves but for me it does not super luxury glass building to be.
(@^.^@)
wonder how these magnificent structures will survive?
ReplyDeleteAlice: Nice photos of the malls of your area. You certainly have a lot of building hapening.
ReplyDeleteThese are impressive malls, and I'm sure you'd be so happy with the malls openning up. thanks for the visit.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! I once stayed at a very beautiful hotel in Orchard Road ( I think). Thanks for your visit.
ReplyDeleteOur big malls are dying a slow death, every month another store closes. The only growth areas are our state library system and our state parks--since that money was already in place before the economic troubles hit. So many people are unemployed now, they can use the parks and libraries, but they can't afford to go to a mall.
ReplyDeleteI do like the star and hexagon designs.
ReplyDeleteThose are great shots! I love the escalator facing the road :)
ReplyDeleteThe new mall always the attraction.
ReplyDeleteThe cleanliness of the city is so impressive.
Thanks for the visit.
find it interesting that they are building so many malls and projects there in these tough economic times. makes me wonder where the shoppers are coming from that will support them.
ReplyDeletethe building architecture is amazing...i like the escalator/elevator on the side of the building....intereting.
have a wonderful week,
Thanks all for visiting my world in here. :)
ReplyDeleteThese shopping centres were already built few years back when times are good. Who could have known the economy to be so bad.
I too like the escalator facing the road. When it is completed, I will ride the escalator up and take photo down from there. Will share what I see from up there. :)
I hope for all our sakes people who have the means keep spending so that these stores survive. I am not a shopaholic, but I do admire the architecture. great photos.
ReplyDeleteGordon, Thanks for visiting, I really agree with that opinion.
