Flats in Chinatown

These few blocks of flats in chinatown are one of the few earlier old housing estates. The owners have since grown old, so majority of them are old folks. The youngs prefer to buy flats in newer housing estates.

  4. Yes, we are a small island, so we need to built our houses upwards towards the sky...lol

Chinatown is a very old town and can be considered to be a small village.

This apartment looked big but the individual units had lesser rooms, some are only 1 bedroom and 1 living room or 2 bedrooms and 1 living room while those in newer estates have bigger units with four or five bedrooms and some are masionettes.

  6. "Some are maisonnettes", must come from the French word maison, maisonnette means little house, sounds cute and cosy.
I wouldn't like live in one of those small appartements, they don't look very confortable nor cosy, but hey! the people living there are happy to have a roof on their head, in their dear Chinatown.

  8. Owners of these flats around Singapore need to pay a monthly service fee for maintainenace in the housing estate and every five years the building would receive a fresh coat of painting.

And of course most lived happily in these flats although there are some who really do not get along. Different racial people do live in these apartments in harmony and during festivals they would exchange food, etc.
