Happy Chinese New Year - Year of the Rooster

Today is the 1st day of the Chinese Lunar Year, this year is the year of the Rooster. Here wishing all Chinese and those who celebrate the occasion, a very Happy Chinese New Year.

Not forgetting to collect the ang pows (or red packets) from the different banks to put money inside as gifts to distribute to family, relatives and children of friends.

This year I had the bags from a local bank to keep the angpows. The bag is so useful, it had different compartments, so I can keep different ang pows that contained different amount of money inside. The closer the relation of the giver and receiver will be bigger amount of money of gifts.

Singapore Chinatown Chinese New Year Street Light Up 2017

Last Saturday, I went to join in the fun to watch the Chinese New Year Street Light Up at Chinatown to user in the year of the Rooster. Time passes fast, Chinese New Year will be on 28th January 2017 and last for 15 days. There will be lots of programmes to watch in Chinatown during this period. For more information on the programmes, please view from the official website.

This year the Chinese New Year decoration of a big rooster looked so pretty especially at night.

There were so many people in Chinatown that night, I could hardly go near the stage to watch the performances. Best was the lighting of the firecrackers followed by fireworks. Watch the video below for the firecrackers and fireworks towards the end of the video.

Even South Bridge Road was beautifully decorated.

Singapore Botanic Garden

Been a long time since I last visited the Botanic Garden. But this time is different cause the Botanic Garden was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Was here with my siblings and we had great time taking photos and strolling in the garden.

Great to see the white swans again but could not find the lone black swan that we saw the last time.

Was surprised to see several huge catfish in the pond. Dont remember seeing such huge catfish during our last visit. Will post the video of the huge catfish.

The famous tembusu tree (it was featured in our S$5 note).

Beautiful garden, nice to have picnic here too. Look out for several beautiful sculptures around the garden. Can view my previous post for other sculptures too.

The sundial in the sundial garden is very meaningful to me and my siblings. When we were toddlers, my parents took photo of us at this very same spot. After 50 years, we positioned outselves exactly as when we took the photo 50 years ago. It was really beautiful and brought back fond memories. Did not post the photo here due to privacy.

The bandstand was favourite with wedding photos, I took my wedding photo here too.

Lots of squirrels in the garden, I managed to take a good photo of one of them.

Spotted two very huge monitor lizard at the Tembusu Tree and a smaller one at one of the tree. Will post the video of the two huge lizards.

There's a National Orchid Garden at the Botanic Garden, I am not going to post here cause there's simply too many beautiful flowers here but you can view my previous post on the flowers in Botanic Garden.

Safra Punggol and Punggol Waterway Singapore

Decided to visit Safra Punggol that was opened recently. Took the Light Rail Train from Punggol MRT Station. At the platform on the right from the escalator but look for the light to indicate "WEST" before boarding the train (cause there's a East and West line for the train) and alight at Sam Kee LRT Station.

Sam Kee LRT Station is only one station away from Punggol Station. Easily able to spot Safra from the train.

A short walk to Safra Building from Sam Kee LRT Station.

I fall in love with the place, near the building was the Punggol Waterway, nice cozy place to jog, stroll, cycle, etc

Bicycles are available for rental at Safra.

The splash pool was a favourite with the kids, need admission fee to enter. For the informaton on the admission fee, please visit thewebsite.

Lots of restaurants, fast food restaurants, available in the building and there is also a bowling centre on the top floor for lovers of bowling.
