Prayers and food offerings on Mom's death anniversary

It's the time again for us to pray and make food offerings to our mom on her death anniversary.

The prayers was done in my brother's house. My brother being a toaist, firstly food offerings of whole cooked roast duck, roast pork, steamed chicken were offered to the God.

After the prayers, then the duck, pork, chicken were chopped into bite sizes and with other dishes, were being food offerings to pray to my mom and the ancestors.

Boxes of incense papers were prayed and later burned as offerings too.

After all that had been done, was our turn to eat the food hahaha. We still missed our mom but was a great day to be able to gather with my siblings and family members on this occasion.

Of course , we need these delicious nonya kueh from Galicier Pastry (Galicier Confectionery), Tiong Bahru for our tea break.

Pokemon Go Craze

Hahaha the latest craze must be the Pokemon Go that was recently launched in Singapore. Seems like the game is successful to bring these youngsters out instead of them staying all day in their room playing computer games. I hope Pokemon Players will play it safe, saw so many almost bumping into people, too engrossed looking at their phone trying to catch pokemon monsters.

Singapore Quarry Nature Park - Hiking Trail

At last, managed to find time to visit Singapore Quarry Nature Park (this quarry is different from the previous quarry I visited at Bukit Gombak - Little Guilin.

Easy access to Singapore Quarry Nature Park at Dairy Farm, exit at Hillview MRT Station Exit A, the hiking trail is just behind the MRT Station Exit. Those driving can park at the car park next to the MRT Station, no cars are allowed into this hiking trail. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the quarry from the Hillview MRT Station but if enter via Fuyong Estate, there's a short cut about 10 minutes walk to the quarry (see map).

Turn right on seeing the Dairy Farm Outdoor Adventure Learning Centre. Remember to wear comfortable shoes, bring along a hat or umbrella to shade from the hot sun and most important a bottled water to prevent dehydration as there's no vending machine or stalls at the quarry.

The hiking trail is well paved and very quiet and ulu. Saw less than 10 people when I was there but lots of creaking sound in the bushes and forested area at both sides of the trail, thought was some animals or monkeys but there were many cyclists cycling inside the wooded areas and up the hills. A great biking trail for the adventurous cyclists.

Enjoyed the hiking trail as the view is great and air smell fresh and the sight of many flowers and wild fruits growing in the area.

Wow did not know this is wu hua guo or Common Yellow-stem Fig. See more information from source.

At last, after a long and tired walk, we finally arrived at the quary nature park.

Singapore Quarry: A former quarry that was in use till the late 1980s, it has been transformed into a wetland.

The quarry looked beautiful and is similar looking to Little Guilin in Bukit Batok (another quarry park).

Cattails

These pink looking are eggs laid by apple snails. The good thing about blogging, you learn a lot of stuff when googling.

After all the photo taking and resting, we decided to head back. On the way out and along the hiking trail, we spotted a group of monkeys (some not in photo but in the trees), they dont seem to be afraid of human but I am more afraid of them hahaha.

Short video on the hiking trail and scenery of the Quarry.
