Three malls in Tampines (Part 1)

Taking the train and alight at Tampines MRT Station, you can see three malls side by side. The train station is actually sandwiched between tampines mall, century square on one side and on the other side is the new mall known as Tampines 1.

Century Square (very old mall)

Tampines Mall

The new kid on the block - Tampines 1 - very crowded during weekend.

Despite the three malls being so close to each other, J (my best friend) and me could not find any nice clothings that we needed for dinner. I needed a nice dress for nephew's wedding in November (but on posting these photos, I already found my evening dress - will talked about it in later post... :)

Short video of what's going on in Tampines 1. A promotion by Shiseido - a make over. They do the hair and make up for you but I find it strange that the outfit the consumer wore dont match with the nice make up and hairdo. They should provide some nice clothings too.
J and me have intention of going for a make over before we have wrinkles all over our face...lol. Well, women are vain...hehehe
A promotion by a magazine which gives free gifts too. I dont buy these expensive magazines anymore cause I found that there are more advertisements then interesting articles in them. So I end up reading past issues of the magazines from library or my hair salon...hahaha.

My World Tuesday-Bedok

This is another old housing estate in Singapore. It is Bedok. Bedok is on the eastern part of Singapore.

You can see many shophouses in here. The shops are mostly non air conditioned and you can bargained for the products you want to purchase unless they have a fixed price tag.

Shophouse meant the ground floor is often used as a shop for business and the owner occupied the 2nd storey as a residential quarter. The higher floors are occupied by other flat owners. Further down the photo, you can see a lift upgrading going on. In the past, lifts stop only at certain floors but as the population aged, lifts are being upgraded to stop at every floor for the convenience of the aged residents.

Bedok is a self contained small town, that have many amenities/facilites eg. bus/train stations, malls, banks, markets, hawker centre (above photo), etc.

Wet market selling poultry, meat, vegetables, etc

This wet market has already been upgraded, it is so much spacious, clean and the floor are dry and not wet.

Skywatch-Friday-St. Joseph's Church

Saint Joseph's Church is a Roman Catholic church in Singapore. The church was constructed from 1906 to 1912 with its foundation-stone laid two years earlier. The building was built in the Gothic style by the Portuguese Mission. For more on this church you can view from source.

Looking at the church from another angle. Geez, I am such a poor photographer...lol.

I took this photo of the church from Waterloo Complex through this rounded structure. If only the small tree would not obstruct the view, it would look better.
The taller building opposite the church is the National Library which I had posted earlier.

Closer look at the church's beautiful windows.

My second sister is a catholic and sometimes she comes to this church for service. My family is like my country, we have buddhist, taoism, christain, catholic and free thinkers and we live in harmony. :)

What Movies Did I watch with my little niece? (Answer)

The answer is ..............Night at the Museum 2.

She is quite mature for her age and she dont really like cartoon.

She is looking forward to the soon to be released movie of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. She told me in this movie Harry Potter will die. OMG, she knows more than me...lol

A day out to the movie

Yesterday, I brought my eight year old niece out to the movie. She told me it was her first time out to the movies but I think she cannot recall the times when my brother brought her out to the movies when she was much younger...lol. Anyway, she was so excited and happy.
It was a delight to watch the movie with her and both of us was laughing so hard in the cinema. I am a kid all over. Lucky for me I still have a little niece to play with and go out with ....lol. My two grown up sons are too engrossed with their friends and activities to accompany me out for a movie and hubby would only watch movies that are all too boring for me..lol. I wondered what movies we watched while we dated...hehehehe

Can you guess which movies little niece and me watch? Answer will be revealed one day later. :)

National Library - Part 2 - Visitors Centre

Continued from yesterday's post on the National Library of Singapore. I could only show you the outside of the 5th floor visitor Centre. I could not take any photos inside the library and do not want to disturb the people in there too.

Full of greenery outside the visitors centre and users can come here and do their projects or listen to stories being told.

Amazing they could bring tall plants and trees on this fifth floor.

Noticed the glass panels on the side of the buildings, you could see the library inside there.

A sculpture in the visitors centre.

From the visitors's centre, I could view the surrounding area.

Do you remember the Iluma Shopping Centre that I posted in an earlier post.
I will show you more about Iluma in coming post.

My World Tuesday-National Library (Part 1)

This is our new National Library which is so big compared to the old library that I used to go during my childhood. Perhaps I used to go there during my younger days and I was sentimental about the demolition of the old library. You can view a photo of the old library in here

It is about 16 storey high and very spacious and the library was internationally recognised as an architectural icon and designed as a 'green' building, its deployment of various innovative 'green' features helps to keep the building operating in an energy-efficient way and to do its part for a more sustainable environment. (Read more from source.)

Looking up from the ground floor, the library has very beautiful glass panels.

Inside the library, the ground floor is so spacious and clean.

The outside of the lirary with nicely designed shelters.
I cant take much photos of the inside library, you have to look at the official website in here.
The main entrance of the library. Inside the escalators move only when the sensors capture anything in front of it to save energy. At first, I thought the escalators were faulty and I had to climb the escalators ...lol.
I will post the visitors centre with greenery and with a view of the surrounding area on the fifth floor tomorrow, so please come back and visit.

Dragonfly

I managed to capture a close up shot of this red dragonfly while on a day trip to Desaru, West Malaysia last year. Am glad that the dragonfly was so still there. :)

Not sure what species is this dragonfly.

Skywatch Friday- Housing Estate - Part 4

Skywatch concludes my series of posting on the housing estate and its facilities.
Although we are a small island and our homes are mostly built upwards, we do remembered to have greenery around the island.

This tree is fully bloomed with yellow flowers. Dont ask me what tree this is...lol.
Beside the mini park (which I posted yesterday), there is a big field for residents to play foot ball, etc.

And yes, the field is well taken care of.
A short video (zoom bigger) of the mowing process. The birds love it cause it helps them find food...lol

I conclude the posting with an evening sunset photo taken from my brother's flat.

Housing Estate Part 3 - Mini Park

This is the same park near my brother's apartment that I have posted before. You can view my previous posting in here.

I went down to the mini park with my little niece in the evening. Now I see people starting to come out and play and also to exercise.

This place is so shady, I like it.

A track for residents to jog or run. Noticed in the background, some flats are on the ground floor and they can dry their clothes in the open space and also to grow plants. Residents on higher floor also can grow plants in pots but they cannot placed them on dangerous place (eg. window ledge), which can pose a danger to people walking on the ground floor.

Anyone who throws objects down from high buildings to endanger lives would have to face a heavy penalty.

Pebbles on the ground for foot exercises. There are many fallen leaves in here, the poor cleaner would have a hard time sweeping them the next day.
A suspended bridge popular with kids.

Looked at my little niece having fun with her stuffed doggie on the sea saw. The doggie is a christmas present that I bought for my niece when she was about 2 and she still keep it. It is so dirty and yellowish but she refused to change for a new stuff doggie ....lol I think I will bring her out next month during the school holiday to get a new stuff dog.

Noticed that the see saw is designed for safety. It is low and the mat to cushion any fall by kids.

There are more play equipment at the playground like the swing, swinging chair, car, etc but I did not take the photographs .
