Chinese New Year 2015 - River Hong Bao at Marina

Without fail, every year, we sure to visit the River Hong Bao at Marina Bay FLoating Platform.

My favourite, of course must be the huge God of Fortune.

This year being Singapore 50th Anniversary, the theme is relive the past. There's a giant mural wall that illustrates Singapore skyline.

There's two huge peacocks decorating the seating areana. Really beautiful.

A familar person at one corner of the mural, that was Sir Stamford Raffles, Singapore's founder.

And of course the very popular and familar Merlion and the banner for SG 50 (Singapore jubilee year).

Difficult to take nice photos without so many heads blocking the lanterns, hahaha. It sure was crowded.

Skywatch Friday - Fire Crackers and Fireworks during Countdown on Chinese New Year's Eve 2015

Firecrackers and Fireworks during the countdown of Chinese New Year 2015 in Chinatown Singapore. Video taken by my hubby on eve of Chinese New Year, I did not want to go down to Chinatown as it was supercrowded.

It is illegal to light up firecrackers in Singapore but only on certain occasions, like Chinese New Year and the mid autumn festival, firecrackers were lighted up in Chinatown, etc by professional.

Chinese New Year - Year of the Goat/Sheep

In a few hours time, we will welcome the Year of the Goat/Sheep.

Just finished reunion dinner with family and awaiting for the Chinese New Year programme on television. Hubby will head to chinatown to soak in the atmosphere of shopping at the last minute. It will be super crowded and I am one who disliked being caught in human traffic jam hahahaha. Best place to be in now is home watching the telly and resting, tomorrow I will be cooking a feast to welcome my guests.

Chinese New Year 2015 Getai in Chinatown Singapore

During this Chinese New Year, almost every weekend, there were be a getai(Stage performance) in Kreta Ayer Square in Chinatown, Singapore.

Videos of the Getai/Performance, very entertaining. The above performance in mandarin. The above performance in Hokkien. The above performance in cantonese by a well known former TV actress. The below two videos taken by my hubby, hahaha his first time using his iphone to video, he should take a front view of the singer. What a waste, the singer was wearing very glamourous costume.

The above performance was a very famous cantonese opera song.

Another famous song by the singer. For photos on other parts of the world, please visit Our World Tuesday Meme. Thanks to the team of Our World for giving us the opportunity to share my world with the rest of the world.

Chinese New Year 2015 - Red packets/Ang Pows

Collect this year's red packets/ang pows from the respective banks for use during the Chinese New Year. Best to have different red packets to differentiate the amounts that we placed inside.

POSB's mascot, Smiley, is placed in the front and centre of POSB red packets. Always “Neighbours First, Bankers Second”, POSB’s red packets also depict multiple generations of Singaporeans celebrating the festive season in our heartlands and around Marina Bay. The red packets were designed with Singapore celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year in mind.

DBS Girl and Boy, Xing and Jaan now comes in four designs featuring Xing and Jaan at play and celebrating the Lunar New Year by joyously spreading festive cheer.

God of Fortune on the cover of the red packets from Putien Restaurant.

From left, red packets from UOB Bank, Standard Chartered Bank and MayBank.

Lastly, red packets from OCBC Bank.

Chinatown Singapore Street Light Up on 31st January 2015 (Saturday)

Time passes real fast, Chinese New Year is approaching real soon. Last Saturday, there's a ceremony for the street light up at Chinatown Singapore.

It was so crowded that I cant watch the performance but managed to catch the fireworks at the finale of the ceremony.

There will be another round of fireworks and firecrackers along with performance on the eve of Chinese New Year but I wont be there cause it will be super crowded.

This year it will be the year of the Ram/Goat. The display of the goats were placed too low unlike last year where the horses were hung up real high. Very bad position, too low for photographers.

Video of fireworks at the finale of the ceremony.

My World Tuesday - Big Box Mall at Jurong East

Took this photo of Big Box Mall from the food court of opposite building (JEMS Shopping Mall). Jurong East Residents were spoilt with four big shopping malls (J Cube,JEMS,Westgate and Big Box) in the heartland.

The mall was linked to JEMS shopping mall via a bridge for easy access.

The new megastore in Jurong East features lifestyle products and services from groceries to furniture. It is a eight storey building with three storey of retail space with lots of space. Inside the mall, the ceiling were not done fancifully and kept very bare, making the whole place look very spacious. The best thing of this mall is that they have lots of seats (and yes, swinging seats) for tired shoppers.

Like this place a lot cause there were many cute decorations for the home and they were not expensive.

They dont have any restaurants in this mall but few food courts that sold food at reasonable prices.

At the basement, they have a hypermart with huge shelves with cartons of groceries, wow really tired me just shopping in this mall.

They even have counters selling food street like sausages, fried chicken wings, fish balls, etc.

Will visit this mall again cause even though there were a lot of shoppers, I dont find myself caught in human traffic with the vast space in here.

Skywatch Friday - Ng Teng Fong Hospital

At first glance, I thought the building is another condominium project but on closer look, I realised it was a hospital. It really looked very beautiful and nothing like a hospital, love how the balcony curved.

The hospital was named after a rich tycoon, the late Mr. Ng Teng Fong cause his family donated a huge amount to the hospital.

Below a video of the hospital which was linked to some shopping malls and linked to the Jurong East MRT Station.
